ADVICE FOR ASPIRING AUTHORS!
I want to write a book. Where should I start?
Reading is the best teacher! Read, read, read, read, read. Read in the genre you want to write. Read books on writing craft. Read books that are popular, and books that aren't. Read!

I want to publish a book. Where should I start?
I am a self-published author, and incredibly proud of that fact! As writers, we live in an incredible time in publishing history, where it's easier than ever to share our stories and find readers who love them.
Traditional publishing is also still a viable career path that might be right for many authors to pursue.
Whatever avenue you choose—indie, traditional, or hybrid—before your begin publishing, I highly encourage you to learn all you can about the process. It can be daunting in the beginning, but it's doable!

You also can find a wealth of information on YouTube, in podcasts, and in Facebook author groups. I've got specific recommendations for those down below, too. Just make sure to check your sources—there is as much bad information out there as there is good, and publishing moves at incredibly fast pace. Advice given even a year ago may no longer be best practices.
What writing conferences do you recommend?
I have been a big fan and supporter of Storymakers since it's very first conference back in the early 2000s! It takes place in Provo, Utah every spring, and it's a great place for new authors to get their feet wet and learn the ropes.
