Shelby, a first year lawyer, is scared of her boss, has a large case load, and is put in charge of babysitting a reluctant heir with a conditional clause to his inheritance. She's also got her 15 year old sister living with her, who she's trying to keep out of trouble, and keep safe from their narcissistic mom.
Dakota, a hockey player, is set to inherit 40 million dollars, but has to complete 40 tasks to inherit it. He feels like the father he was estranged from is still trying to control his life from the grave.
This was such a great book! I loved all of the tasks and finding out how Dakota accomplished them and what affect it had on his life, then what he learned from them. I loved Shelby and her sister's relationship - how they were devoted to each other. I loved Dakota's relationship with his mom, who was just trying her best. What a great premise and fun read of love, life and relationships (which are messy).

Like many of us, Shelby & Dakota both have issues with their parents. How do you trust someone else when you can't even trust your own parents? Lindzee Armstrong does an amazing job of navigating this emotional minefield. As always, she doesn't disappoint with this latest book! You'll have to read it to find out more about hockey, aliens and infinity.

I loved the clean storyline of how Shelby and Dakota work together to check off the tasks. While doing so they spend a lot of time together and become closer.

Seriously one of the best books I have read in a long time, I found it so hard to put it down and ended up binge reading it! Great story line and wonderful characters

I really enjoyed reading this book! The story was intriguing and kept my attention from the very beginning all the way to the end. I was rooting and cheering for Dakota and Shelby from the very first chapter. I loved their chemistry and how they stood by each other through all the real life moments that happened.

What a great story - clean, some funny, some serious, down to earth, real life, characters who I loved getting to know (well with the exception of Courtney). The times they spent together hanging lights, ax throwing, Thanksgiving dinner, decorating the tree, laser tag, blood drive and the dreaded court date. I admit I was holding my breath until Dakota, Lisa, MiKayla, and Shelby walked out of the courthouse!!

I was sympathetic for Dakota, a famous pro hockey player, who caught the culprit who egged his house, reported her, and then was treated so rudely for reporting her by the culprit’s sister, a beautiful attorney. Granted Shelby, the attorney, made her 15 year old sister clean up and gave her additional consequences. In this enemies-to-more clean romance, Dakota comes to learn Shelby’s backstory and finally understand why she was so defensive. He was dealing with his own family issues and it helped him understand and connect with Shelby. I loved the way Dakota, his mom, Shelby, and her sister grew into a family-type relationship. It was heartwarming to see them love and support one another. Loved i! and highly recommend! I received an ARC from the author. The opinions expressed in this review are strictly my own.

Both Shelby and Dakota have a lot on their plates, I enjoyed how they slowly found out that by joining forces life gets so much easier for both of them instead of adding an additional burden by fighting a personal war.

I LOVED this book!! It was such a cute, fun, family oriented, family drama, great pace book. It caught my attention the first chapter and it’s hard to put down. I immediately got into all the characters which were so believable they could be your friends. The storyline was very good about a hockey player and a forty million dollar inheritance if he did what was in the will. But that to me wasn’t the main storyline. I think the whole family issue between Shelby and her family and Dakota and his family was the real story. It was so well written, and you felt like you could be right there in the story. Of course, if I was, I would have a hard time keeping my cool with Courtney Blake.

Believing his father had completely ignored him and refused to pay child support after being divorced due to cheating, Dakota has refused to have anything to do with him since. But now his dad is dead, leaving him a fortune if he will just complete a list of tasks. And whose job should it be to verify his completion of each task but the woman whose sister egged his house? With that rocky start and a boatload of resentment towards his dad, Shelby has an uphill task ahead of her to get him to finish his tasks in time and keep her boss happy. Will Dakota be able to overcome his resentment to learn the lessons his dad's trying one last time to teach, or will he stay stuck in the past? And can he and Shelby manage to build something lasting out of the wreckage of their respective families?

This book is on the longer side, but it has so much going on that it's not a page too long. Nor is there too much going on, because it all fits together so beautifully as we see two enemies face and overcome their pasts so that they can make a future together. Dakota has various hard discoveries to make about things in his childhood that didn't happen how he believed - for better and worse - and Shelby is with him every step of the way (initially whether he wants her to be or not!). And Shelby has her own problems with her mother that require drastic action - and Dakota is supportive in that. It's a romcom - but it has so much depth to it, which I really loved. It's quite a while since I read anything by this author, but if this is the result, it's well worth the wait! A very satisfying and enjoyable read. Recommended.

Falling for a Faceoff is a delightful, clean, romantic comedy. Kudos to Ms. Armstrong for coming up with this concept - 40 tasks to perform in 6 months to earn a $40,000,000 inheritance! I love both Shelby and Dakota. It was a bit extreme to call the cops for a house egging, but that meet impossible made the next day even better when Dakota learns that Shelby will be overseeing his completion of the tasks on his father's list. I thoroughly enjoyed my tie spent with this couple. The tasks area imaginative and varied. I loved watching Dakota learn about his father's past as he performed the tasks. Ms. Armstrong weaves an imaginative concept into a thoroughly engaging, well written romance. I loved how both main characters and Shelby's sister learned from this experience and was sad to reach the end. Lindzee's books have been on my go to list for over a decade!
